Aftercare

Caring for your gel nails is simple, but it’s essential to do it properly.

While fresh gel nails are beautiful, maintaining their appearance requires some aftercare.

To ensure your gel nails are protected from the start, it’s essential to adopt a few easy habits:

Keep your nails dry and clean

It’s essential to keep your nails dry and clean ad water and chemicals are the main foes of gel nails, so when you’re doing dishes or cleaning, wearing gloves is highly recommended.

Moisturise your nails

To ensure your nails and cuticles stay hydrated and prevent brittleness, it’s essential to keep them moisturised. When applying lotion or oil, concentrate on the skin around the nails and the cuticle area, steering clear of the nail surface. This method helps maintain softness and flexibility, improving the overall health and appearance of your nails.

Don’t use them as tools

Avoid using your nails as tools, they’re not designed for tasks like opening cans or removing stickers.

Reduce heat exposure

Try to reduce heat exposure, like from hot water in showers or when washing dishes, to maintain the strength of the gel’s bond to your nails, as heat can weaken the gel polish adhesion.

On Holiday care

When you go on holiday, it’s crucial to be mindful of how long your nails are exposed to water. Nails can soak up to four times their weight in water, leading to expansion and shrinking that may result in gel polish chipping or peeling. Moreover, chlorine and sea salt can negatively impact your manicure; chlorine can cause discoloration, while sea salt may dehydrate your nails, making them more prone to brittleness. Chemicals from sunscreens or insect repellents can weaken your gel, too.

Minor Fixes and maintenance

Despite taking all necessary precautions, a chip or lift may still happen, so rather than trying to fix it yourself, it’s better to schedule regular touch-ups with me. Even if it is just for adding an extra layer of protection with an additional glossy top coat.
